GREEN STORIES 2024.
5-10 November 2024, Goa, India
Green Stories 2024 marked the beginning of a nurturing community built by and for filmmakers, with incubation and mentorship at its heart. The lab created a collaborative space where storytellers could refine their ideas, gain confidence, and connect with a global network of industry leaders. With the shared intention of building and shifting the ecosystem for environmental storytelling, committed to stories that inspire change.
The inaugural edition was supported by the National Geographic Society, SONY India, and Royal Enfield Social Mission, with incredible partners including Jackson Wild Film Festival, NEWF, and RG Sustain India, among others.
The mentorship and incubation at Green Stories helped us shape our early thoughts into a coherent narrative, and now that story is being recognised by the industry — with invitations to international pitching forums like Hot Docs and Netflix-BANFF DOV forum. We were also able to receive support from the Royal Enfield Social Mission here that helped us film underwater with the support of our co-producers, NEWF. It was also during this time that we met the wonderful Doc Edge Kolkata team, who later invited our film to be part of their incubation program, helping us sharpen our vision even further and learn more about the human-interest documentary filmmaking industry. None of this would’ve happened without that first yes from Green Stories. We’re incredibly grateful for the trust they showed in our vision and for giving us the safe space and support to grow.

Green Stories was the starting point for everything good that’s happened with our film Dreaming in Blue so far. They were the first to trust us when our idea was just a proof of concept, and that trust gave us the confidence to begin our journey. We found invaluable guidance from mentors from around the world who believed in us and we formed a beautiful partnership with NEWF, who are now our co-producers and impact thought partners! There’s truly no other program like this for nature filmmakers in India, and while I wish something like this had existed earlier in my career, I’m so glad it now exists as a space for storytellers to come together and help get the films that need to be made.

Being an observer at Green Stories was a reminder of the importance of nurturing bold and honest storytelling about our natural world. I was immersed in a space where bold nature, wildlife and environmental stories took center stage. It reminded me that we have the power to shape powerful, grounded narratives. For me, it was a masterclass in our courage, creativity, and commitment to our planet as storytellers.
